Software For The Nuclear Industry

Software for the nuclear industry Since 1983, WMG has been the leader in radioactive materials management software for the nuclear industry. From its NRC approved RADMAN™ program, WMG has supplied its utility and commercial clients with easy-to-use programs based on current practices and regulatory requirements. It’s no wonder that WMG computer programs are routinely used at most commercial nuclear power plants, commercial nuclear processing facilities and government sites.
RADMAN™
RadMan - The nuclear industry standard for characterization, classification and documentation of radioactive waste Approved by the NRC in 1983, this program is the standard for the nuclear power industry and is routinely used at over 95% of U.S. operating stations. It characterizes, classifies, manifests and documents packaged radioactive waste. It incorporates current DOT and NRC regulatory requirements and the acceptance criteria for the Barnwell, Envirocare and Hanford disposal sites. It operates on an easily updated plant specific database and incorporates state of the art practices and analytical methods to support shippers and NRC audits. A typical shipment manifest plus all supporting regulatory documentation can be prepared in five to 10 minutes.
FILTRSAVR™
FILTRSAVR - Real time characterization of in-service filters Building on the FILTRK™ output, this program receives wirelessly transmitted dose rate data from filter housings and estimates the NRC waste class while the filters are still loading and in service. "Speedometers" provide a visual dispaly of actual vs. target waste class. Real time characterization allows better management of filter waste, efficient scheduling of filter changes and provides input for ALARA evaluations.
RAMSHP™
RamShp - Creates manifests and documentation for radioactive material shipments This program is similar to RADMAN™ but is used to manifest and document radioactive materials shipments between licensees. It incorporates methods to characterize and classify contaminated materials, activated components, packaged equipment, sources, samples and instruments and articles. RAMSHP™ also supports shipments by air in accordance with IATA Requirements.
FILTRK™
FilTrk - Characterizes and classifies spent filters and strainers according to NRC and DOT classifcations This program is linked to RADMAN™ and characterizes and classifies spent filters or strainers. In addition to NRC and DOT classification requirements, it incorporates the NRC and Barnwell concentration averaging guidelines to ensure that packaged filters comply with regulatory requirements. Dose rate breakpoints for each NRC Class can be obtained quickly and easily for each stream prior to filter generation. Users can prepare mock shipments before actual packaging to avoid HICs that do not conform to requirements.
OSM™
OSM - Characterize, inventory and track on-site equipment This program is linked to RAMSHP™ and is used to characterize, inventory and track vendor equipment received on-site to support an outage. It maintains a current inventory of equipment received and enables the user to quickly recharacterize this equipment once the outage is over and manifest it for return shipment.
MegaShield™
MegaShield - Application to generate point kernel shielding calculations This Windows based program makes it easy to perform point-kernel shielding calculations. It provides for multiple source sizes, materials, shield regions and materials in most geometric configurations. Its graphical interface facilitates iterative calculations to optimize shields. It also performs dose to curie conversion calculations. It has been benchmarked to ANSI and ESIS standard shielding cases.
RAMTRAK™
RAMTRAK - Inventory, track and create reports on RAM, LLRW and equipment at multiple sites This program is designed to inventory, track and prepare reports on RAM, LLRW and equipment stored at multiple sites, allowing for a fleet overview. It is a web based application that can be accessed from any internet connected computer. RAMTRK can interface directly with WMG's RADMAN™ and/or RAMSHP™ to utilize current facility waste and RAM records.
Our Standard Software
WMG’s standard software packages support:
• Low level waste management
• Radioactive materials management
• TRU waste characterization
• Spent filter characterization
• Power plant outages
• On-site Radioactive Waste / Material Tracking

WMG also provides customized versions of its standard packages, as well as programs specifically designed to support client and/or a facility's specific needs in the U.S. and abroad.
Custom Software Solutions
When our standard software packages do not meet a client’s specific need, they are customized. These single application projects include development of completely new programs that address DOE characterization and acceptance parameters and generate DOE disposal site manifests. Commercial projects range from processes like incineration to fairly elaborate waste processing facilities where customer and nuclide tracking at each step of the process is critical. Other commercial projects involved the incorporation of another country’s regulatory requirements into one of our standard packages. Government projects have involved DOE facilities with unique waste forms that are not amenable to characterization using commercial techniques. Examples include development of dose to curie conversion techniques for low-level Pu waste forms to those used for characterization of Uranium and Thorium. Each custom designed computer program effort is fully documented with specifications and reports from the initial design stage through its operational testing at a client’s facility.
Our Quality Assurance Program
All software is designed, developed and modified under WMG’s 10CFR Part 50 Appendix B Quality Assurance Program. Our software QA program also meets the requirements of NQA-1, Part II, Subpart 2.7. In place since 1988, NUPIC and commercial clients routinely audit our Quality Program. WMG software users have access to all testing programs and quality assurance documentation, thus assuring that it meets all functional, technical and regulatory requirements.
