Trust WMG's experienced engineering team for reliable specialty and specification packages tailored to your specific needs. Specialty Packaging Nuclear Power Facilities are continuously maintaining and upgrading their overall material conditions. These activities invariably result in the need to package for shipment or store large, non-standard sized power plant components. Reactor heads, coolant pumps, drive mechanisms, and heat exchangers are a few examples of the kinds of removed or replaced components that will require a Specialty or Specification Package. WMG is an experienced turnkey service provider of Specialty and Specification Packages. Our engineering capabilities include design, fabrication and, where required, we provide licensing and regulatory interfacing. Components shipped or stored in WMG-supplied packages have included reactor pressure vessel heads, steam generators, control rod drives, and most recently an Auxiliary Decay Heat Exchanger. Design, Fabrication, and Test WMG designs, fabricates, tests, and delivers specialty radioactive material containers primarily for the commercial nuclear power industry. Packaging design always incorporates everything from shielding requirements to ensuring packaging can be shipped over the road or rails. All packages are fabricated in accordance with our 10 CFR 50 Appendix B Quality Assurance Program. Specification Packages At WMG, non-routine projects refer to unique scenarios such as large or rare components, unusual waste streams, or legacy waste where the desired data may not have been collected or retained. These projects typically require innovative solutions for characterization, shielding, and packaging. We take great pride in providing services for non-routine projects, as they allow us to exercise our creativity and apply our expertise in radioactive waste management to unique and challenging scenarios.
- FLTRSTOR | WMG, Inc.
Discover the FLTRSTOR™ system, revolutionizing the handling of radioactive filters for enhanced efficiency. With integrated racks and pallets, our system accommodates up to 104 Tri Nuclear type filters, streamlining storage, shipping, and processing. Experience cost savings and increased productivity with this innovative solution, minimizing handling and maximizing container capacity for large-scale filter cleanout campaigns. FLTRSTOR™ The FLTRSTOR™ system revolutionizes the process of loading, storing, and shipping filters, significantly enhancing efficiency compared to the traditional method of simply dropping filters into a container. Comprising four (4) racks with integrated pallets, the FLTRSTOR™ system enables the reliable accommodation of up to 104 Tri Nuclear type filters (e.g., 6" diameter x 30" length) within our 8-120 custom Open-Top Container, which is provided as part of the system. This integrated solution eliminates the need for multiple handling of each filter during storage, dose profiling, container loading/unloading, and processing, while also increasing the quantity of filters that can be shipped simultaneously. By loading 104 filters in each outgoing FLTRSTOR™ container, significant cost savings are achieved by reducing the number of expensive 8-120B cask shipments and minimizing the required number of containers for large filter cleanout campaigns. Key Features One of the key advantages of the FLTRSTOR™ system is its ability to significantly reduce the number of lifting operations required to load filters into the container. This reduction not only minimizes personnel exposure (with one customer reporting a dose savings of over 50% compared to loading individual filters), but it also allows for the optimal positioning of higher dose rate filters at the center of the load, maximizing cask shielding during transport. This positioning is made possible by the traceable individual rack storage cell locations. Rack Handling The FLTRSTOR™ racks can be conveniently staged on the pool floor, occupying a footprint of 24" x 58". Alternatively, they can be hung from a suitable curb hanger with a robust weight capacity of approximately 500 lbs. Once a rack is fully loaded, it is removed and placed inside the provided WMG 8-120 custom open top container. Two (2) racks fit at the bottom of the 120 container, with the remaining two (2) racks stacking on top. Once all the racks are loaded, the container lid is securely re-installed, and the cask is prepared for shipment off-site to its ultimate disposition. Rack Features Stainless steel construction with multiple drain holes to support underwater loading. Height = 30 1/8" Footprint = 24"x54" Tare Weight = 180 lbs. Maximum Gross Weight = 530 lbs.

We have extensive experience in the field of decontamination and decommissioning (D&D), dating back to the Shoreham project in 1992. Over the past four decades, we have provided support for the vast majority of D&D projects in various sectors including private, institutional, and government. We have also extended our expertise to international D&D projects and to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). WMG has handled a wide range of D&D project scopes. Conducting evaluations of radioactive waste characterization, packaging, storage, transportation, and disposal alternatives to providing one-of-a-kind engineered packages for the intact disposal of reactor pressure vessels with internals. We focus on understanding each customer's unique requirements and leverage our comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, local, and disposal site regulatory frameworks to deliver the lowest risk and most cost-effective solutions for compliantly packaging, transporting, and disposing of D&D wastes. There is no substitute for accurate characterization of the radioactive waste that will be directly disposed of, stored prior to entering SAFSTOR, or generated during a D&D project. The feasibility of all planning, packaging, transport and disposal alternatives is based on characterization results. This need for accurate characterization is particularly true for the reactor pressure vessel and internals where errors due to faulty methodologies or inexperience can cost a client millions of dollars and months of time. Waste Characterization Accurate characterization of radioactive waste is essential for optimizing handling, packaging, transportation, storage, and disposal during a D&D project. This is especially true for the reactor pressure vessel and internals, as errors resulting from flawed approaches or lack of expertise could incur substantial cost and significant delays for the client. WMG is widely recognized as an industry leader in Waste Characterization. We possess the expertise to precisely define location-specific characteristics, enabling us to develop cost-effective strategies for packaging waste for disposal or storage (GTCC waste). Strategic Planning Effective strategic planning is critical for the success of a D&D project, whether your plant is undergoing SAFSTOR or full decommissioning. At WMG, we have extensive experience and unparalleled technical expertise in waste characterization, packaging, and logistics. Our knowledge of the constantly evolving disposal and regulatory landscape enables us to provide our customers with customized plans that minimize their risk and costs for their specific decommissioning challenges. Package Selection, Design, and Permitting Only through detailed knowledge of the entire logistics path can an optimal package selection be made. Cost, ALARA, dimensional, weight, and regulatory constraints need to be evaluated as a whole to determine the best package configuration. Sometimes custom packaging provides the optimum alternative compared to additional segmentation to fit existing packages. Since each site and component is unique, a customized plan can reduce our client's schedule and costs. Proven Experience and Capabilities With WMG's extensive experience and demonstrated capabilities, our clients can be assured of receiving the most effective plans and package designs available. We conduct thorough assessments of all aspects of disposition, including waste characterization, packaging, and logistics, to develop a clear and well-defined disposition pathway for all waste streams.
